Recently released email conversations between climate change scientists in Europe show how they have manipulated evidence and silenced their critics, creating a scandal now known as ‘Climategate.’

Gordon Crovitz, recently editorialized the scandal in the Wall Street Journal:

For anyone who doubts the power of the Internet to shine light on darkness, the news of the month is how digital technology helped uncover a secretive group of scientists who suppressed data, froze others out of the debate, and flouted freedom-of-information laws. Their behavior was brought to light when more than 1,000 emails, and some 3,500 additional files were published online, many of which boasted about how they suppressed hard questions about their data.

Crovitz goes on to detail some of the emails:

The emails showed how the global-warming group stifled dissent. They controlled the peer-review process, keeping opposing views unpublished, then cited “peer review” as evidence of their “consensus.” One of the dissident scientists, Roger Pielke of the University of Colorado, wrote on his blog that the emails show the “collusion to suppress other scientifically supported views of the climate system, and the human role within it, is a systemic problem with the climate assessment process.”

Not only did they limit the peer review process, but the London Times discusses how the scientists dumped the data which they have used in their attempt to prove that global warming existed:

Scientists at the University of East Anglia (UEA) have admitted throwing away much of the raw temperature data on which their predictions of global warming are based.

It means that other academics are not able to check basic calculations said to show a long-term rise in temperature over the past 150 years.

The UEA’s Climatic Research Unit (CRU) was forced to reveal the loss following requests for the data under Freedom of Information legislation.

These emails are damaging evidence for the climate change community.  They also show the extent to which those who control the “evidence” will go to hinder their opponents.

Aris Candris, CEO of Westinghouse Electric, discusses in an editorial how nuclear power can help bring the US out of its recession.

To date, the recent growth of the nuclear energy industry has created at least 15,000 jobs, with many more on the horizon. Westinghouse’s work alone in the deployment of four new nuclear plants now under construction in China will create or sustain an additional 5,000 U.S. jobs in 20 states. These jobs are in fields such as engineering and design, and in the manufacturing of fuel rods and assemblies, pumps, motors, circuit breakers, etc.

Beyond that, the American Council on Global Nuclear Competitiveness (a trade group) estimates the nuclear energy industry will create as many as 350,000 jobs over the next 20 years, many in traditional building trades (welders, pipe-fitters, construction workers) that have been hard hit by both global competition and the current economic downturn.

These projections are grounded in reality. To date, 25 new nuclear power plants have been announced for the U.S., 14 of them by Westinghouse. We expect the first of these new plants to come online about 2016.

Attorneys are completing work on Wisconsin’s version of global warming legislation. The best way to limit increased cost to consumers, risk to investors and unintended consequences from the far-reaching legislation is to allow the committees with expertise in energy and utility issues the opportunity to ensure the utility related provisions are workable. Legislative leaders have charged one committee in each house to learn about utility issues and deal with all legislation related to utilities. Leaders deserve credit for establishing committees that can focus on specific issues. Now these leaders must use the system they developed to limit the cost and risk of global warming legislation.

Contact your representatives today, and tell them to send energy issues in the climate change legislation to the utility committes.   Please click here to send your message.
